What Kinds of Problems Can Veneers Correct?
You’ve got healthy teeth but more than a few complaints about them. Perhaps teeth whitening is ineffective against your kind of discoloration. Maybe you’re unhappy with the way some of your teeth are longer than the others. That small gap in between your front teeth? You could do without it. To you, these problems are standing in the way of your perfect smile. Veneers could fix all of them in one.
Veneers tackle a host of cosmetic issues that would otherwise be solved by multiple other procedures. The only catch is that your teeth and gums have to be healthy to support them. For some, this might mean that you can’t get veneers until we help you correct tooth decay and gum disease.
Here are some of the problems dental veneers can correct:
- Small spaces between teeth
- Minor alignment issues
- Discoloration
- Uneven tooth length
- Gummy smiles/small teeth
- Improper tooth shape
- Chips and other damage
- Tooth sensitivity
If you have cosmetic issues with your teeth, veneers can fix almost all of them. Some more significant issues like overcrowding may have to be corrected with another cosmetic procedure like Invisalign before you can choose veneers.
The Porcelain Veneers Design and Attachment Process
Your veneers need to be closely fitted to your natural teeth in order to last for decades. To do so, we’ll need to take detailed photos and measurements of your teeth and mouth with our iTero intraoral scanner. These photos will help us design your ideal smile. With your help, we can make the adjustments you want.
While we are creating your mold, we will grind a fine layer of enamel off the tooth. Doing so will give your veneers a more comfortable fit in the mouth and a more stable fit on the teeth themselves. We may take more scans to account for these changes in your teeth. Using the scans, we will create the mold that acts as the foundation for your porcelain shells.
Most dentists will send this mold away to a lab where your veneers will be built. In the meantime, we will give you a temporary set to try out. The temporary shells will protect your dentin (as it’s not as protected by the enamel anymore) and will allow you to get an idea of how the veneers fit, look, and feel.
Permanently Attaching the Shells
Once the veneers are ready, our dentist will apply a mild acid to the teeth that will help the veneer adhere. After, we apply a bonding agent, activate it with LED light, place the veneers, and cure them in place with the LED.
While veneers can be adjusted and replaced, you will likely have to continue to wear them for the rest of your life. Once the enamel has been eroded to make room for the veneers, it can’t grow back on its own. Your teeth will need a layer of protection to fend off sensitivity, decay, and breakage.
How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost in Manhattan?
The cost of veneers will depend on many factors, including:
- The office where you get your dental work done
- The experience and value your dentist provides
- Whether your veneers are made in-office or sent to a lab
- The cost of materials, including the quality of the porcelain
- The number of shells you choose to have made
Veneers in New York can vary from anywhere between $1,000 and $4,000 a tooth. The best way to get an estimate is to speak with our dentist about what you can expect for your own set of veneers. We can work with you using our payment plan and membership options, so affordability doesn’t stand in the way.
